ABOUT US

What is Speech and Debate?

For over thirty years, PHS Speech and Debate has been dedicated to help young adults become more effective communicators. In conjunction with the National Speech and Debate Association (formerly the National Forensic League) and the Indiana High School Forensics Association, Plymouth High School offers students an opportunity to compete in compelling and growth oriented competition. Earning 39 consecutive sectional wins, our speech team produces success, driven through hard work and determination.
"The art of communication is the language of leadership."
James Humes

Our Main Goal

Speech and debate is an outlet for students interested in broadening their horizons. In addition to the benefit of looking impressive on a resume, participating in Speech & Debate will prepare students for the most critical times in their lives. Presentations, job interviews, wedding vows–you name it, we help prepare you for it.
The need to teach young adults to speak responsibly and effectively is a especially vital in a society that is so focused on communication. Dialogue is essential for forming healthy relationships, spreading information, instigating change and preventing conflict. We are preparing the next generation for a world where connection is constant and crucial.
